Thankful Days 11-14

I'm not very good at keeping up with this am I?

Day 12
I am thankful for a wonderful, caring, fabulously funny, sweet husband.

Day 13
I am thankful for computers, the Internet, GPS, and iPhones. They may interfere with life sometimes, but they sure do make many things so much easier!

Day 14
I am thankful for books & they they allow me to experience another person's story for a brief while. I love, love, love to read.

Thankful Days 9-11

Day #9:
I am thankful for fun Christmas shopping at the Nutcracker Market with a sweet friend, my fabulous mom & wee baby Clara Beth! If I drew your name for Christmas this year, you're in luck :)

Day #10:
I'm thankful for an INSANE Aggie football game where we beat the #1 team in the nation, Alabama, our first season in the SEC on the road. WHOOP! Plus we got to watch the game with some friends which makes victory that much sweeter.

Day #11:
I'm thankful for the opportunity to celebrate the soon-to-be birth of baby Brody. So excited for you Emily & Sean!!

Thankful Day #8

Today I am thankful for PUPPIES. Crazy, needy, attention-seeking, exercise-deprived, destructive, loving, sweet, adorable puppies :)

They bring so much fun to our household, and I know Clara is going to love having two ready-made best friends in the house as she grows up!

Reflections on Election Results

The thing about living in a country with 2 major parties is that almost half of the country's population is going to be ticked off every election. That's just the nature of the beast.

I, too, am disappointed with the result.
BUT I'm more disappointed in several things I've read and heard from TV reporters, radio DJs, my students and friends.

To those that have said all of these hateful things:
Do you really want Obama to cheat on his wife so that he can be impeached? (what a horrible thing to hope happens), do you really want to go to war over a party difference? (can you imagine how awful that would be?). do you really need to call him names and curse at his supporters?

The thing is: he IS our president. Like it or not. For 4 more years.

Our job WAS to become informed and vote. Now our job IS to pray for the man that has been elected as the leader of country. He needs wisdom, discernment, and divine guidance.

I'm going to ask you to set an example - and show people that as Christians we know what our job is, and we know how to love one another.

Thankful Day #6

Today I'm thankful to live in AMERICA. We are so blessed & privileged to live in a country like this. It has its problems for sure, but we can choose what to say, what to wear, where to worship & we can VOTE

(Although I'm hugely dissatisfied with our two-party system and electoral college. Oh well, we can vote anyway!)

Today I drove to College Station with my out of date voters registration card (blarg, I really should have checked that earlier) with the Little Miss to vote. I was holding her & got about 2/3rds of the way through when she flailed her arms & mashed the big red "Submit Ballot" button and I was then apparently finished. I guess she was getting a little impatient with me. Oops :)

Wee Clara Beth got to vote in her first election though & she's not even 18!

Thankful Day #5

I am thankful for brilliant time saving ideas!!

This evening I was slaving away over powerpoint when suddenly I thought .... these students can do this themselves!

So I made a really cool chart that the students will fill out in class, and I'll vary up their groups & the assignment. They will get all of the information they need, it'll be in a ready-to-go study format, and best of all: I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND HOURS AND HOURS MAKING TEACHING MATERIALS!!
(Do I hear an "Amen!"??)

I'm not convinced this is the 100% best instructional strategy, but I so badly want to continue this year, and I've got to find some ways to get my lesson planning done more efficiently, so this is the answer for now. Hurrah!!

Thankful November #4

I'm thankful for swaddles, sleep, and good dreams!

I was worried about the time change, but thanks to a swaddle we managed the change just fine. After we left Leah & Duncan's house last night, Clara passed out in the car and slept most of the night, only waking up once. Whoop!
