18 weeks, 2 days (TMI)

Well, although the plan was to play blogger catch up, I'm actually going to fast forward to the present temporarily. I'm not able to do much today (which will be explained soon) so I'm just watching the A&M/Northwestern Bowl Game with Bryan & the pups and playing on the computer.

I will warn you, this post will get a bit personal and possibly be too much information for you. If you're the queasy type or don't like to hear terms like "uterus" - please don't keep reading after I give a heads-up.

This picture was taken after I had several friends get onto me about not taking any "bump" pics so far. Sorry, friends!! I TOOK ONE!! This was taken the morning of 18 weeks and 2 days. As you can see, the wee one is really starting poke out there.

Yesterday morning was our typically busy 9/80 Friday-off for Bryan & I. Bryan took my Highlander into Toyota to do the 5,000 mile check up (we've actually put way more than 5,000 miles on it in the brief time we've had it), get an oil change, and run it through the car wash. Meanwhile, I continued to clean up the house after all of our travels and wait for the Ryland guy to come and fix the air duct (we had a leak in our bedroom while we were gone). Then we met up with Janie, John, Tyler, Jessica, Todd, Amy & Ellen for lunch at 1pm at FREEBIRDS, yummm. Then we headed back home to continue cleaning and our friend Stephanie was going to come over for a while.

(Note: This is when I start sharing personal information.)

It was around then (3pm-ish) that I started noticing that I was spotting bright red blood. I didn't think too much notice of it, because I've been told a little bit is normal, but I did what's generally suggested - starting taking note of the time and how much blood there is over a period of time.

Stephanie came over, we hung out and talked, and I went to the restroom again to see if it was getting better/worse. It was getting really heavy - more like a menstrual cycle instead of just spotting. I was also starting to experience some fairly intense lower back pain and moderate cramping. (5:30 pm-ish.) I started to get really concerned. I was also hungry.

We made plans to go get some dinner and if it didn't lighten up by then I would call the midwife on call (for either labor or emergencies.) I decided to call on our way to dinner just to let her know what was going on. She asked me to postpone dinner and come into the center to do an ultrasound and make sure there was nothing seriously wrong. We did a u-turn and headed to The Woodlands.

I was of course getting really nervous by now because the cramping was getting worse and the bleeding was continuing.

We arrived and they immediately set us up on the ultrasound. Baby looked great - rolling, kicking, and wiggling a LOT, which the midwife was glad to see. She was more concerned about the placenta and my cervix. She spent quite a while looking at them. My placenta has moved in front of my uterus, which means that it's what's right under the middle of my tummy now, not baby. I can only feel the baby kicking on my sides and at the bottom so that didn't really surprise me. They said they will have to monitor it's placement as I get closer to term because I can't physically deliver a baby through a placenta, so it could result in an emergency c-section if we're not prepared for it. That's not really relevant now - but it was interesting and good to know. It also meant we couldn't get a very good view of my cervix.

Since the ultrasound couldn't show us what we needed to know (except they now knew that it wasn't the placenta that was bleeding, which is good), they had me do a urine sample to check for a bladder infection (which can sometimes cause bleeding), but it came back negative. Then they decided they needed a mucus swab, which involved an uncomfortable pelvic exam to get - yuck - to see if I was perhaps developing a yeast infection, which can also cause bleeding. It, too, came back negative.

They finally decided to check my cervix. To do this effectively, they wanted to do a trans-vaginal ultrasound. Again, yuck. They were able to get a very good image of my cervix though, which showed that it was irritated & very slightly opening. They said that the "cramping" I had been experiencing in my stomach and back could have been just severe cramping that caused irritation, or minor contractions which are not good at this stage in the pregnancy. To ensure no more contractions happen, they want me to take it very easy for a few days - at least until the cramping reduces and the bleeding stops. I'm also supposed to take an extra 1,000 mg of Calcium & Magnesium every day, which helps keep the cervix strong and shut. I'm also on "pelvic rest" for "quite a while." This basically means no sex. I'm not sure what "quite a while" means, but at least until my next appointment on January 25th for the anatomy scan.

Today the bleeding has slowed down quite a bit, but I'm still having pretty rough cramping. Hopefully that will stop today (or very soon).

It was scary, but the midwife (Christy) and nurse were AMAZING. They stayed calm, never once brushed off any of our concerns or questions, and were very thorough to make sure both me and our baby were fine. It was very reassuring to see our baby move and see and hear her strong heart beat and that she was still protected and safe in there. It was also a relief to get to the bottom of why the bleeding occurred, and know what to do to prevent any further irritation.

At this point (almost 8pm) I was VERY hungry (understatement), so Bryan, Stephanie & I went to the nearby Los Cucos and Bryan ordered a very large margarita to calm his nerves while I had one without any alcohol :) We got home around 9:30, completely wiped out. Stephanie headed home and we crashed into bed.

If you're still reading, we'd like to ask you for your continued prayers for this pregnancy. We want our little girl to stay very safe in there!

Trip to Denver!! Part 2

Throughout the week we did lots of small day trips, some have photos and some don't :( I wrote a summary of our trip in an earlier post, so I'll just hit the big ones here.

One of the most fun day trips we did was to drive up to the Rocky National Park and check out Estes Park, which was partly closed off due to snow volume, but we were able to see a lot of it. Very pretty!!

We tried to take some timed photos of all 5 of us while we were there .... I tried to run quick enough and face planted in the snow the first take. The second one went much better :)

Another major day trip we did was to hike around the Garden of the Gods. Very cool! It was also very high up so we were having a bit of trouble breathing after a while.

One other big one was our day trip to Golden, CO - Janie & I did walked around the downtown area in the snow while Bryan & Tyler did a tour of Coors. It was a lot of fun - but no pictures.

The drive back was fairly uneventful. Since there was a blizzard that closed down all the high ways we would have used to get through New Mexico, we ended up going through Kansas (Our baby's already been to New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma - not too bad for only being 17 weeks old :).

We stayed at a hotel that night - 5 adults and 3 dogs. Wow. There was one bed, a fold out couch bed, a pallet, and kennels involved. Let's just say it was a little crowded and crazy, but we all got at least some sleep, and made it back by evening the next day. (It ended up being right around a 19 hour drive too).

Home sweet home! Great trip, wonderful friends, lots of unpacking to do :)

Trip to Denver!! Part 1

Our Trip to Denver was a blast. I'll start with getting-to-Colorado process.

Bryan and I went to work Wednesday morning, met back up at the house around 12:30, and were in the car ON THE WAY by 1pm! We were impressed with ourselves.

We stayed in a small motel in Vernon, TX that night. Thank goodness the puppies were (mostly) well-behaved :)

Once we crossed through New Mexico and into Colorado, we started seeing pockets of snow on the ground! What did the puppies want to do first? You tell me .... :)

All that grass with only a little snow, and they wanted to pee on the white stuff. Go figure.
All week long they LOVED the snow!!! Lots of play-and-sniff time.

We finally arrived at John & Janie's place in Denver that evening! (19 hour car ride total.) We had dinner with Janie, John, & Tyler - and the puppies played the getting to know each other game, also called "I'M the alpha dog." Sleep ensued and we were very happy. Time for some fun!

Here goes!!

Soooo, Bryan fixed my computer up so now I have a legitimate program to organize pictures in again!! YAY!! I am a HUGE believer in filing.

Unfortunately because I've boycotted so long, I have quite a bit of catching up to do ... bear with me :)

Denver!!

Denver has been WONDERFUL!!

We drove up Wednesday & Thursday, and Thursday evening had dinner with Janie, John & Tyler before crashing for a much needed good night's rest.

Friday everyone went to work except for Bryan & I, so we slept in, and took the pups out to play in the SNOW at the dog park -- which they LOVED!! The rest of the day meant hanging out, baking, watching goofy TV shows and enjoying all 3 dogs - Maverick, Goose & Molly - as they got to know each other. It was also Janie & John's 5th Anniversary so we went to P.F. Changs to celebrate --- yuummmo.

Saturday we took the pups for a walk in the snow and then drove up to Estes Park (part of the Rocky Mountain National Park) and it was STUNNING - I will post pictures once I have Microsoft Picture Manager on my computer. We also had a delicious lunch in a pub in the little town you hit right before the park.

Sunday found us heading to Colorado Springs to attend Tyler's church and watch him play in the Praise Band. We had yummy burgers for lunch and then hiked around the Garden of the Gods - again, very pretty and cool!! Pictures will come for that too. Our dinner consisted of popcorn, milkshakes, apples & oranges --- perfect :)

Monday John had to work, so the 4 of us with the day off drove up to Golden, CO. Bryan & Tyler took a tour of the Coor's Brewery, and Janie and I walked in the snow around the sweet little downtown of Golden. The snow was gorgeous, and I found a little somethin'-somethin' for Baby Evans :) More on that soon!! For dinner we made pizza and watched all of the recent Castle episodes for those of us behind (*cough* Bryan and I ... oops).

Tuesday (today) we found out if our little Peanut is a GIRL or a BOY!!! The tech managed to get a great shot so Bryan & I didn't wait until Christmas to find out as planned. I also accidentally let it slip to my Momma over the phone - SHOOT - so it won't be a surprise for my parents on Christmas either - but everyone else will find out then!! :)

And that brings us to now, while the puppies are wrestling and napping, the boys are playing old school Sonic the Hedgehog :), and I'm thinking pretty hard about a nap. It's BELOW FREEZING out there (hasn't got above 26 yet today) so we're taking a pretty low key day to lounge around, discuss baby related things and get some laundry done.

It's been a great trip so far - we'll see many of you soon!!

I'm a terrible blogger ...

One of the reasons I've not been very good at the keeping up with the blog recently is because although I LOVE this MacBook, the picture organizer Apple uses is TERRIBLE. And I DO mean terrible. I haven't uploaded pictures from my camera (which has hundreds) or from my phone (which I think is pushing 200 now) because it hurts my brain and my patience every time I try to organize the pictures into files. Bryan has promised to put Microsoft Picture Manager on the computer, but it hasn't happened yet, so I stand my ground and have been boycotting the filing system! Unfortunately, that means that all of the posts I've wanted to do...

- New Car
- Anadarko Christmas Party
- Painting the nursery
- Putting together the crib
- Thanksgiving
- Ranch Visit
- A&M vs. tu game
- Adorable puppy pictures
- Baby sonogram picture
- hot cocoa cookies
- Christmas decorations
- Adorable pinterest craft

have not happened because it's not the same without pictures!

I will give you a heads up that we are Colorado bound this Wednesday, to return the following Thursday, spending Christmas Eve at my grandparent's ranch, spending Christmas Day with the Evans', and then the following day at the lake house .... I may or may not squeeze some blogging in there. (*COUGH* - If Microsoft Picture Manager is loaded I'll make it a priority :)

18 hour drive with a pregnant woman who needs to use the restroom every hour, Bryan, and 2 hyper puppy dogs ... pray for us (and especially Bryan's patience), haha.

Love you all!! I hope you're enjoying this holiday season as much as we are!

Keep calm & carry on

I don't know if I'm having a sudden surge of pregnancy hormones or what, but yesterday and today have been really rough on me. Little things are bothering me, and the big things have felt really impossible to deal with. This is obviously a bigger problem at school than it is at home, and today has been a huge challenge to get through without a torrent of angry tears - and there's still 2 classes to go.

Please pray that I can calm down and keep my head. Sorry that this isn't a "fun" post, but I could really use some divine intervention!
