Love

My response to today's huge debate about equality in marriage:
I believe we all have 3 choices when it comes to gay marriage. 1. Love. You openly support their right to love. 2. Judgement. You love them as people but still judge them as sinners. 3. Hate. You hate them for loving, feel threatened by them and judge them. The Bible taught me "The greatest is love" so I choose love.

  1. I also think that Christians often forget that the Bible tells us "For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside." (1 Corinthians 5:12-13) If we just try to impose our laws/standards/ways of living on people who aren't Christians, we're causing more problems than we started with. A person who tries to follow all of the Bible's rules but is not a believer in Jesus is no better off in eternity than someone who openly disobeys the teachings of the Bible in any way. Being heterosexual is not what saves a person. Knowing Jesus Christ is what saves a person.

And...James 1:22 tells us to "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." How many failing Christian marriages are making same-sex marriage (and probably Christianity, too) look less and less appealing to those on the outside? I think our time would be much better spent working on our own marriages (and lives in general) to properly reflect Christ's intention for them instead of pointing fingers and telling other people they're doing it wrong.

Okay, I will get off my soapbox now and go walk Murphy... :)

  2. I'd like to edit a statement from my first paragraph to..."A person who tries to follow all of the Bible's rules but is not a believer in Jesus is no better off in eternity than someone else who is not a believer and openly disobeys the teachings of the Bible in any way." Okay, now I think I'm finished for real.
