San Francisco Day 2: Muir Woods & Sausalito

We made it through Day #1, rested up and first thing in the morning we were up and at ‘em, ready for Day #2!

First, all 9 of us assembled on our “van” – the vehicle that took us on most of our journeys while we were there. From the hotel we stopped at the 7 Painted Ladies (these 7 gorgeous homes all in a row), drove up to the look out on Twin Peaks, and then drove across the Golden Gate Bridge.

From there we started our trek to the Muir Woods – the famous redwoods of California! We did a short hike since we were a little short on time (we only had an hour and a half or so!), and it was beautiful. We definitely could have spent longer there! Very, very cool. Also: do you know why redwoods grow to be so big and tall? Well, not only do they have their roots in the ground soaking up moisture and nutrients, but unusually enough their branches also serve as another set of roots & are able to soak up moisture for the tree to use. This is especially beneficial in California because of all the heavy fog they get. Thus, they get enormous! Don’t you feel
smarter? :)

After the Muir Woods, we headed to Sausilito. Papaw, Meemaw & Grandma found some ice cream, soup & a view while the other 6 of us drove around the city on Segways. VERY COOL. Now I think we all really want Segways … too bad they’re so expensive. We saw quite a bit of the “downtown” area, and even took a stop to check out some of the houseboats.

We rode the ferry back to San Francisco. Mom, Bryan & I went to check out Ghiradali’s Squire & get some ice cream. Everyone else either went back to the hotel or roamed around until it was time for dinner.

Dinner was at a personal favorite of me & Bryan’s – Bubba Gump Shrimp!! It was our favorite meal on our honeymoon in Maui, and we were very happy to have a chance to eat there again. Unfortunately, we were too busy enjoying the food & tropical drinks, so we didn't take many pictures. Oops.

After dinner we stayed around the wharf to watch the sea lions. Several of them were fighting it out big time, while the rest just ignored them and slept. Pretty funny :)

Everyone slowly walked back to the hotel, and slept REALLY good. Lots of exercise, lots of fun, lots of food. See you on Day #3!

  1. Another interesting day we had! Loved seeing the sea lions just playing with each other. Enjoyed shopping with Ludie and eating a cup of Clam Chowder. That town is beautiful! So glad you enjoyed the Segways, maybe a special gift you will receive one day! They looked like fun!!! gma
